About the Department
Department of Mechanical Engineering started functioning from the inception of the institution in 1963. It offers three-year full-time Diploma Programme in Mechanical Engineering (DME) with an intake of 162 students consisting of three batches. In addition to this intake, the department admits 10% lateral entry students with Hr. Sec. (Academic & Vocational) and ITI background.
The faculty of the department are qualified, highly committed, self-motivated and well trained to adopt best teaching-learning process to impart knowledge to the students. The department has been granted Autonomous status from 1995-96. It was Accredited by NBA, New Delhi up to 30-06-2022. This department got NBA Accreditation status 2 times in the years 2012 and 2019.
The department has received the “AICTE-CII Survey of Top Industry-Linked Technical Institutes 2015 Award” for the “Best Industry-Linked Mechanical & Allied Engineering Institute (Diploma)” at the National level.
The department has been recognised as “Skill Institute – Glass Processing Technology” by M/s Glass Academy, Saint- Gobain Glass India Limited, Kanchipuram. The department has been recognised as “Corporate Member” by M/s Indian Welding Society, New Delhi.
We were placed in the “Platinum” category by the "AICTE-CII Survey Industry-Linked Technical Institutes" conducted for the years 2020, 2019, 2018, 2017, 2016, and 2015.
The department organizes Seminars, Paper Presentation Contests, Conferences, Quiz Competitions, Mock Interviews, Entrepreneurship Development Programmes, Career Guidance Programmes, Technical Demonstrations, Model Making Contests, Industrial Visits, Film Shows, Parent-Teacher meetings and Guest Lectures. Our students are voluntarily involved themselves in activities like Yoga Practice, Plant Sapling, etc., in our Campus.
- Sri S.N.R. Sri Renga Raja Award & Chennai Metco – HoD Pasupathi Award are given to the best outgoing students in the department for every Academic Year.
- M/s Mill India Limited, New Delhi sponsors the entire fees for one student every year by establishing an endowment fund.
